Free Bikeability courses this February Half-Term in Sutton Coldfield

Give your child confidence, safety, and independence on two wheels – for free.

This February half-term, Aspire is delivering official Bikeability training at Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School in Sutton Coldfield – and it’s completely free for families, funded by the Bikeability Trust and Birmingham City Council.

Choose from four expertly delivered courses, depending on your child’s age and stage:

Balance Bikes (Ages 5-7)

Our Balance Bike Training introduces 5-7 year old pupils to the fundamentals of cycling through fun, instructor-led activities that build confidence, coordination, and control. It’s the perfect first step before learning to pedal.

Monday 16th February - Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School, Sutton Coldfield

Choose from one of four 90-minute sessions:

  • 9:00am – 10:30am (arrive by 8:45am)
  • 10:45am – 12:15pm (arrive by 10:30am)
  • 1:00pm – 2:30pm (arrive by 12:45pm)
  • 2:45pm – 4:15pm (arrive by 2:30pm)

- Small group sizes (6–10 children per session)
- Bikes and helmets available on request
- Perfect for first-time riders


Learn to Ride (Ages 7+)

For children who can’t yet ride a bike on their own.

Whether your child is struggling with balance or just needs that final push, our patient, DBS-checked instructors are here to turn wobbles into confident pedalling.

Tuesday 17th February - Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School, Sutton Coldfield

Choose from one of four 90-minute sessions:

  • 9:00am – 10:30am (arrive by 8:45am)
  • 10:45am – 12:15pm (arrive by 10:30am)
  • 1:00pm – 2:30pm (arrive by 12:45pm)
  • 2:45pm – 4:15pm (arrive by 2:30pm)

- Small group sizes (6 children per session)
- Bikes and helmets available on request
- Perfect for first-time riders


Level 1 (Ages 7+)

Bikeability Level 1 is designed to give children the skills and confidence to ride safely in a controlled environment, such as a playground or closed school area.

Riders will learn how to control and master their bikes, preparing them for cycling on the road. The session focuses on balance, starting and stopping, signalling, looking behind, and sharing space with others.

Wednesday 18th February - Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School, Sutton Coldfield

Choose from one of four 90-minute sessions:

  • 9:00am – 10:30am (arrive by 8:45am)
  • 10:45am – 12:15pm (arrive by 10:30am)
  • 1:00pm – 2:30pm (arrive by 12:45pm)
  • 2:45pm – 4:15pm (arrive by 2:30pm)

- Small group sizes (12 children per session)
- Bikes and helmets available on request


Level 1 & 2  (Ages 9+)

Builds on Level 1 by taking pupils onto quiet local roads, teaching essential road safety skills and preparing them to cycle independently and responsibly.

Full day 8:45 arrival, start at 9am-4pm - Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School, Sutton Coldfield

Choose one:

  • Thursday 19th February - 8 places
  • Friday 20th February - 8 places

- Suitable for 9+ (Year 5 and above)
- Bikes and helmets available on request
