Is it required by CQC to have a specific 'Activity Coordinator'?
While no regulation mandates a job titled 'Activity Coordinator', CQC regulations (e.g., Regulation 18 on Staffing and fundamental standards) require you to provide staff who are suitably trained, competent, and able to meet assessed social and well-being needs, including meaningful and personalised activities.
How much will this cost us as an employer?
The government funds training and assessment up to £6,000. Your cost depends on whether you are levy‑paying or non‑levy. Please get in touch with us to discuss your specific case.
How long until we see impact?
The apprenticeship takes 14‑18 months to complete. However, many improvements (more engaging activity schedules, documentation, resident feedback) can start in the first few months as apprentices apply learning to on‑site work.
Do candidates need existing qualifications/experience?
Apprentices without Level 1 or 2 English & Maths must achieve them. Other experience is helpful but the standard is designed to accommodate new or existing staff wanting to upskill.
Will staff be away from shifts? How is learning delivered?
The programme is workplace‑based; much of the knowledge and skills are developed on the job.
How is assessment handled? What is EPA?
When the apprentice is competent, they enter 'Gateway', making them eligible for End‑Point Assessment (EPA). EPA consists of practical observation with Q&A and professional discussion based on portfolio.
